I very much enjoy the process of creating these small scale sculptures. Not being constrained by the practical limitations of making jewellery, or the responsibility of the larger scale commissions allows me to concentrate fully on the material and concepts.

The idea for my most recent sculpture: “I remember” came out of my personal frustration that there was no way to represent the North in my Canadian Landscape ring- the ring itself implies only an east-west connection. By increasing the scale it allowed me to integrate a sphere of labradorite- representing the Northern Lights.

It was also great to be working in collaboration again with my old friend and student, Ruben Komangapik. He’s an amazing artist and was responsible for the stone work and the encouragement I needed to get this piece completed. Qujanaami.
