I hope your summer is going well.
As many of you know I recently took our daughter back to my old stomping grounds- in this case the Western Arctic. It was an epic trip, 4 years in the making. We had planned this trip with my Mum the year she passed away so it was wonderful to finally get there. She was with us in spirit! Reconnecting with old friends, new friends, family and places. The places! Wow.

Here in Nova Scotia we are enjoying our first sunny and warm days of Spring. It really does feel like new beginnings! So I figured it was the perfect time share that I was recently invited to join Peer Gallery, a wonderful space in historic downtown Lunenburg. Formed in 2001, the gallery showcases artwork in a variety of different mediums from 16 talented artists. Re-Opening for the season April 18th!

It’s that time of year again! (And if this is coming to you in the Maritimes I hope that you managed ok in our most recent storm!)
2023 has been a big year for our family. It’s actually the 25th anniversary of my business (how did that happen?!) but more importantly it’s also the year that sees our daughter graduating from high school and launching herself into the world. We are so proud of her!

The special time that rolls around twice a year: in the spring and in the fall. It seems like a perfect metaphor for where so many of us find ourselves right now: poised in that place of balance where, north and south, the length of the days and nights are exactly the same. Ready to use the strength gained by adversity to move forward!

It’s been a long time since many of you have heard from me. I’m sorry about that! It’s been a rough couple of years around here-and I know many people can say the same. But things are improving at this end and I hope this finds you well too.

Reconnecting: Sundays ‘Pie’ the Sea
With everything that we’ve all been going through these days, I recently realized that it has been almost 2 years since I’ve actively spent any time in my Blandford studio. Far too long to be away from everyone!

How are you doing?
Whether you are feeling hopeful now that our numbers are dropping and vaccines are rolling out or still in the thick of lockdowns I think we can all agree that it has been a difficult time for so many people in so many different ways.

What a year! We are all just reeling. I hope that this finds you and your families well.
In spite of all the difficulties and hardships we have all been experiencing I have been touched by our collective acts of kindness, grace and understanding. I hope that this gentler way of being will be the lasting legacy of this difficult time.

The last decade (or two) have been sort of wild, with so many changes and challenges. Our eyes have been opened in so many new ways. But now it’s 2020, and I’m feeling like there’s a sense out there that we can take what we’ve learned and move forward towards positive change for us all. Onwards and upwards!

A Fleeting Beauty
So summer has flown by as usual and we are now now well into the loveliness of fall. But winter is coming with it’s own stark beauty of dark skies and snow crystals glinting in the moonlight.

Spring.
The end of the thaw, new beginnings. Energy and Growth. A time to rediscover wonder. That’s what spring is to me. Even in the cold, grey days after the snow is gone, before things start to green up again, that’s when growth is happening. It is waiting, and it’s coming!

I know that with all the snow and brutal cold that much of Canada has been experiencing recently that most people are ready for winter to be over.
But not me! I know that this is not a popular opinion. ;)

2018 has been a landmark year for Allyson Simmie Metal Arts. I would like to invite everyone to join me for a special exhibit to mark my twentieth anniversary.

In 2000 I felt that it was time to put down some roots and feeling the pull of the sea, I moved back East, settling on Nova Scotia’s scenic South Shore. In 2008 Seal Rock Studio was created.

Frozen Moon Pendant
This pendant was originally created in 1997 as part of my first ‘Arctic Landscapes’ show in Iqaluit. After 3 years of teaching full time I had decided that it was time to start my own business and I saw the show as an opportunity to express to my students and the community my appreciation for what had been shared with me.
